Learner attendance, homework & general behavior have been major obstacles for teachers in our public schools. On investigation by our educators the root cause stems from struggles at home and access to basic needs for these young kids.
At a caucus meeting with community leaders, we curated and engaged on a pilot project, ‘The School Noodle Fund’. We are now currently in a trial phase with the 1st of our identified schools and to date, with the help of the teachers, the campaign is proving to be an amazing success. How it works. Everyday, any learner that comes to school with homework done, will receive a packet of 2 minute noodles. (At the end of the day) At the end of the week, they will receive 2 extra packets of noodles to take home for the weekend if the class teacher confirms perfect attendance and good behavior. That’s 7 packets of noodles towards a learners lunch everyday, costing a mere R75 a month, and improving learners academically.

According to the teachers involved, it has the learners so enthusiastic not just about coming to school but also to making extra effort to behaving well, paying better attention in class and even doing their homework.

2 minute noodles besides being affordable, is still sufficiently nutritious enough to be a young child’s lunch for a day and it can also be prepared by themselves.

On completion of the trials our plan is to run a national project to have a learner sponsored for the R75 a month which is less than most cell phone monthly contracts, but will certainly go a long way in assisting learners, teachers and ultimately the communities these learners come from, ensuring social cohesion and contentment not only for the learner and parent but for you the sponsor as well.
